Sullivan man charged with animal cruelty

MAMAKATING – A Phillipsport man has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies had responded to a complaint of malnourished horses in April 30. James Horton, 68, of Budd Road, promised to correct the situation when spoken to by deputies.

The investigation by the Sheriff's Office alleges that Horton made no attempt to properly feed the horses or seek veterinarian care.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Mamakating Justice Court next month.

Horton voluntarily signed the three horses over to Pine Bush Equine Rescue, Inc.
