TOWN OF SAUGERTIES – A high-speed crash on Route 32 killed a Saugerties man early Thursday morning.

Police say the victim, Gene Hill, 41, apparently lost control of his car at high speed, left the road, struck four trees, a telephone poll, then rolling over.  Hill was dead at the scene.

The impact severed the front end of the vehicle, including engine, from the rest of the car. 

The crash also knocked out phone service to several customers in the area.

Police continue their investigation.
