Sullivan to contribute to anti NYRI fund again

Monticello – Last year, Sullivan County government contributed $50,000 to the joint effort to fight a power line proposal by New York Regional Interconnect.

The county legislature will budget another $50,000 to continue the fight as part of the CARI consortium – Communities Against Regional Interconnect.

On Thursday, the Planning and Community Development Committee of the legislature approved the spending, said lawmaker Kathy LaBuda.

“We must, as a county legislature, do the best that we can to try to stop that project from coming in.”

The eight-county group wants to block the power line, which would run from Oneida County to Orange County. Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Christopher Cunningham is chairman of this ad hoc group.
