Cunningham is not sold on NYRI alternative routes study

Monticello – An agreement between New York Regional Interconnect and the state PSC to study alternative routes for the company’s proposed power line to run from Oneida County to Orange County will not resolve the issues, according to the chairman of CARI – Communities Against Regional Interconnect.

Christopher Cunningham, who is chairman of the Sullivan County Legislature, said CARI is not sold on the feasibility study for a route along the Thruway or Marcy South power line corridor.

“The other members of CARI and I believe that while this is an interesting development, we also feel that any route chosen by this group will negatively impact the upstate energy market and disrupt the natural environment along the route,” he said.

Opponents believe the upstate region should not be negatively impacted to provide electricity for the downstate region.
